Pacific Project offers high school students an exciting opportunity to explore Australia's pacific region, experience East Timor firsthand and make a real difference in one of the newest countries in the world.

This project culminates in a two week community development tour of East Timor where delegates will challenge themselves by working on a development project, teaching classes in schools and developing long-lasting friendships with students from East Timor and around Australia. In 2011, the Pacific Project delegation raised $1500 for the De Costa Secondary School and spent 6 days teching English classes there and working with the Maliana community. Further, in East Timor delegates will meet with UN and Government Officials and tour the beautiful nation that is East Timor.

Pacific Project is one of UN Youth Australia’s principal international activities and has clear benefits through the development of a greater global understanding and appreciation for international issues, whilst giving the delegates an opportunity to further their own growth and deepen their understanding of development.

"The Pacific Project is a fantastic opportunity for young Australians to deepen their understanding of our region and to experience life in Timor-Leste firsthand. By rolling up their sleeves, contributing to development projects, teaching classes in schools and forging long-lasting friendships, Pacific Project delegates are strengthening the relationship between out two countries."

The Hon Kevin Rudd MP - Minister for Foreign Affairs

"Our ability to make a difference on this trip made it stand apart from other travel experiences. Making a positive impact and discovering culture that is so fulfilled and content with so little..."

Grant - 2011 Pacific Project delegate

The students that attend the Pacific Project are those that are leaders within their community, and those with a genuine desire to develop a relationship with, and make a difference in, communities in East Timor.
